Plans for taxi booking office spark fears of street trouble8:58am Tuesday 4th October 2011A restaurant director has warned there could be more trouble on the streets if a taxi booking office opens nearby.
Nural Meah, director of the Royal Balti House in Market Street, Farnworth, made the comments in a formal objection letter to Bolton Council.
Talet Sikander, of S & D Private Hire, Bank Street, Farnworth, has asked the council if it can change the use of an empty property at 80 Market Street to a taxi booking office.
Mr Meah said: “I am strongly opposed to the proposal as Farnworth is a very small populated town and has more than enough taxi booking offices.
“Every weekend there are fights going on. Our cars have been damaged several times by the trouble.
“If this taxi base gets permission at this end of the road, then I am sure we are asking for more trouble on the streets.
“It would be very tough for us to run our business peacefully.
“If the taxi base goes ahead, there will be more more intoxicated people gathering outside at night.”
Mr Sikander was unavailable for comment.
The office would make use of two existing parking spaces and two existing full-time staff members would be based at the office, which would open 24 hours a day.
Bolton planning committee is set to reach a decision at its meeting on Thursday, October 13.
