Taxi driver [sic] to face trial over pensioner's death Tuesday, October 25, 2011 A taxi driver [sic] is to face trial after denying causing the death of an elderly man by dangerous driving. Andrew Bates, aged 44, pleaded not guilty yesterday at Plymouth Crown Court to causing the death of pensioner Gordon Hollister on December 13 last year in Tavistock Road. The private hire cab driver is accused of driving a silver eight-seat Ford Tourneo dangerously near a pedestrian crossing in Woolwell. Bates, of Warwick Orchard Close, Honicknowle, will be tried on December 19, the trial expected to last three days. Judge Francis Gilbert QC granted Bates unconditional bail. Gordon Hollister – known to friends and family as Peter – was 76 and lived in Southway. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Derriford Hospital where he died. It is understood that Mr Hollister was on his way home from a supermarket shopping trip when he was killed. He was only days away from his 77th birthday and his 45th wedding anniversary. His widow Hilda told The Herald her husband made the 40-minute round trip to Tesco at Woolwell several times a week. Source; http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/Taxi-dr ... story.html |
