hI , New to this taxi game and lookin for advice on edinburgh black cab taxi test . Still worth while or not ? Is the money still in the game heard so many stories from drivers whilst sittin as a passenger about it not being worth the problems and long hard hours that is needed now to even take home £300 a week ,Then you hear of others bringing in £600-£800 a week and loving there job . Driving is something i have always wanted to get involved in at some point and being ur own boss ie. own taxi and licence sound the way forward for me but is demand really there to support a family ...... thanks any advice is welcome sorry if others have read this post in another thread ,i posted on wrong section ....newbie

qwerty123456 wrote: sorry if others have read this post in another thread ,i posted on wrong section ....newbie ![]() Oh well, here's my reply again then: qwerty123456 wrote: take home £300 a week ,Then you hear of others bringing in £600-£800 a week and loving there job . In fact you could be talking about the same figures here if "bringing in" means takings, because after rental and fuel takings of £700 probably wouldn't leave you with much more than £300. Thus it's possibly just the difference between 'half empty' and 'half full', no difference at all really except for optimism or pessimism. Or perhaps the braggarts like to state takings as their income rather than what's left. In fact many of the braggards in the trade will barely be taking half of what they claim

Don't give up your day job but do come study at City Cabs, do the job part time Sat/Sun then you will get a feeling for it or against it, you will either love it or hate it, there is no inbetween. We are having to work longer hours nowaday's and your illusion of being your own boss is off track, you can be your own boss but most guy's start by working for an owner, that can be a nightmare, so you work towards being your own boss. There is no gaurantees in this trade, you are only a couple of bad situations away from walking away Hope that helps Good luck |

Had a guy in the taxi who told me that he had a number of cabbies as clients. He was a debt counsellor selling Trust Deeds. Guy lives in Straiton BTW.

Grandad so u think is more than achievable to make more week in week out ? 300 is sort off my worst case senario that I could cope with morgage and family bills wise. Are you driving in the Edinburgh area ? What's ur views on rentin or gettin hold of my own car and plate providing I pass the test ? How's the hours would a be lookin at now in town to achieve the figures I have mentioned ? |

Good god u have really sold it to me . Just don't understand why if there are so many people out there havin that bad a time why do they even bother ? Surly the council regulate the amound off taxi's out there so drivers earn a decent living ? Don't think things r quite as bad as some drivers make out to stop people tryin for test if there buyin plates that are already issued as it wouldn't affect or change the number off cabs lookin for work in the city... Appreciate ur view tho that's why am tryin to get my head around the whole game pro's and cons ... |
