Scheme to aid Brighton and Hove cash-strapped cabbies Taxis are set to display adverts in a bid to help cash-strapped cabbies. Drivers have asked Brighton and Hove City Council to allow the scheme to counteract rises in fuel prices and reduced takings. If they are granted permission, taxis across the city will be allowed to carry adverts on the rear wings for the first time. The money would go directly to the taxi operator and would apply to hackney carriages and private hire cabs. The council’s licensing committee will decide whether to allow the proposal at its meeting tomorrow (November 17). Andy Cheesman, a member of the Brighton and Hove Taxi Forum and the managing director of City Cabs, said: “Drivers have been hit hard in the recession and with the increases in the price of fuel we need to look at anything which is going to put more money in their pocket and not impact on customers. “Up until about 15 years ago you used to have vehicles with the NY cab-style coffin on the top, and that carried adverts. “That died out over the years but now might be the right time to bring it back" Advertising is already allowed in wheelchair-accessible taxis and these promotions will follow the same guidelines. http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/9366985.Scheme_to_aid_Brighton_and_Hove_cash_strapped_cabbies/ |

How can they be cash strapped, you paint the picture that there is plenty of work and you need more cars, or at least that's how I read you on here, somebody is lying and I bet it's not the drivers.

Adverts should be avoided. The advertising companies take the pi*s. You get paid next to nothing for them and any vehicle, WAV or saloon, looks cheap after the event. |
