Council in rethink after same-colour cabs row COUNCIL bosses could drop controversial plans to force taxis to be painted the same colour following a legal ruling. Tendring had wanted all cabs to be painted white and green, and carry the council's crest. But the council has been forced into a rethink. The proposals had sparked anger among cabbies. Tendring is to look at the decision again following a crown court judgement over a similar scheme in Newcastle. Licensing committee chairman Jose Powell said they would look at whether to go ahead with the new regulation or drop it. “The majority of Tendring taxi drivers who responded supported all the other changes we brought in but were opposed to making all vehicles the same colour," she said. "It therefore gives us another chance to take on board their views at the meeting." http://www.clactonandfrintongazette.co.uk/news/localnews/9370177.Council_in_rethink_after_same_colour_cabs_row/ |

I wouldnt normally do this but; Thank you for your email. The National Taxi Association is a members association, we are purely funded by subscription and we accept members from throughout the UK. Unfortunately, at this time we have no members in Clacton (Tendring) district, although we have discussed membership with the local taxi association in the past. I would urge you to contact your local taxi association and advise that the NTA have successfully dealt with similar problems in the past, it is unfortunate that they are not members and don't appear to have been advised. I have read the report from your council on the following link; http://democracy.tendringdc.gov.uk/akst ... t=4&arc=71 In my view the policy looks like it is referring to replacement or newly licensed vehicles, to this end the policy, whilst telling you what colour your cab should be, appears to have the merit of being sensibly brought into being over a gradual period. A number of taxi associations have challenged, successfully, council imposed colour policies, these include The City of Durham (although this has changed now the county of durham has become a unitary authority) and Newport. In both instances the local authority were taken to court. However, with the above in mind, a number of local authorities have brought colour policies in, despite trade concern, Bristol being the latest. Best Wishes free advice.......and no membership received. CC |

Perhaps the problem was that the advice wasn't what the recipient wanted to hear. Not that there's ever been any evidence of that kind of lack of gratitude on here

IMO there's nothing wrong with all cars being two toned in colour, it shows which is which and where they are from. |

Now a more sensible approach to the two tone situation would be to say for arguments sake that all hackney and private hire vehicles should be the same model of car but hackney should be say blue with a white bonnet and boot and that private hire should be white with a blue bonnet and boot. That way owners could just swop bonnets and boots. no additional costs. Simples. |
