Police say Dundee taxi rumours spreading on Facebook are unfounded A warning that young girls in Dundee are regularly being drugged and assaulted by a fake taxi driver has been branded a well-intentioned false alarm. The horror story is being circulated in good faith by the city's Facebook users but Tayside Police say no crimes matching the details of the tale are being investigated. The posting alleges young women are being drugged, picked up by a fake taxi driver and driven around ''for hours on end'' before being sexually assaulted. According to the warning the attacker rifles through the girls' bags, takes their money and then phones their parents, demanding payment of a £25 ''fare''. Police said they had looked into an alleged incident last month but it had not resulted in a formal investigation. ''Tayside Police can confirm that they received a report of an alleged incident on October 2 2011, certain enquiries were undertaken, no formal complaint was made and no further police action was taken on this occasion,'' said a spokeswoman. ''Tayside Police has received no intelligence that suggests that an individual is carrying out numerous crimes of this type but, clearly, if anyone has information or concerns they should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.'' The Facebook warning ends by advising girls to look out for their friends and only to use recognised taxi firms. Police agreed that, even if there is no direct evidence of a spate of attacks in the city, it is important for young women to take steps to protect themselves. ''Drink-spiking is when someone puts harmful drugs into your drink when you are not looking and without you knowing about it,'' added the spokeswoman. ''Often the drugs used are similar to tranquillisers and they can make you feel dizzy, confused and sometimes lead to unconsciousness. ''Sometimes people also have no memory of what happened. The drugs commonly used are rohypnol, GHB and ketamine.'' http://www.thecourier.co.uk/News/Dundee ... unded.html |

I'm never far away. That's for sure. I like to keep myself informed on a number of matters, and there doesn't appear to be much of interest on TDO, at the moment. I've been watching for internet chatter predicting the future economic collapse and civil disorder. Late, 2013, or early 2014, seems to be when it's all going to kick off. Who says there's nothing to look forward to? And some people wonder where their work is going. . . The Great Depression mark II, here we come. Incidentally, I think the London riots were maybe a precursor to something bigger a little further down the road.

The Great Depression Mk 11, eh ?. My Dad and my Ma were born in 1911 & 1914, respectively. They lived through the, “Great Depression”, (Followed soon after by a World War). They then went on to raise a family of five, in a cockroach infested, “Single End”, (For the benefit of our English readers, “A Studio Flat”). They were not unique, that’s how it was back then. Sadly they’re no longer here, but as we I sit in front of our PC’s, with the GCH keeping us warm, wall to wall carpets, and plasma tv’s sitting in the corner of our living rooms, I wonder what they would think of, (The Great Depression Mk 11). |

Skull wrote: And where did I quote Noam Chomsky or anyone else, for that matter? ![]() Gary, dont treat me like an idiot, and I wont treat you like one. The views you give are predominantly left of centre, although arguably, on the left we have communism, socialism and fascism, all are b*stard brothers of the other.....whereas on the right is capitalism, but I stray from the point. Your views, all people being equal, the orwellian animal farm quotes that was your signature at some point are from the left.....your political views; the anti establishment rhetoric.....looks very similar to those espoused by chomski. That's a fair point, but it's a changed world. These days, tugging your forelock and begging the pardon of your perceived betters is a thing of the past. It might still go on in the taxi trade but that's only because the council owns your a*s. I suspect your mother and father didn't know any better, and I don't mean that in a derogatory manner.

My Parents were not responsible for either the Depression or WW11 or the conditions that they lived in. So, aye, you are being, “Derogatory”, and you know you are, but your sentiments say more about you than, “My Parents not knowing any better”. |

CC Honestly, CC, you have me all wrong. I do not subscribe to a specific doctrine, political, philosophical or otherwise. The Orwellian quote you refer to, is simply a vision of a future which I thought relevant for today's Big Brother approach to society. Orwell, got it right. Chomsky, on the other hand, describes himself as a Libertarian Socialist. I am not a socialist. I actually believe socialism to be a greasy pole because man is fundamentally corrupt. It's a nice thought but not very practical. However, one can strive for a fairer balance. One might argue this is happening now, through the internet.
