Taxi driver spared ban over red light error A TAXI driver narrowly avoided being stripped of his driving licence after he claimed his family would suffer if he was not able to work. Abdul Shafic, 36, told Southampton magistrates how he wouldn’t be able to afford the rent on his home he shared with his wife and four children if he lost his job. He also explained how he was largely responsible for taking his children to school due to his wife suffering from a vertigo condition that left her suffering migraines nearly every day and that she was reliant on him to take her to the doctors. Shafic, of Hartington Road, Southampton, drove through a red light – an offence which would attract points on his licence, which was already endorsed with nine points for several speeding offences and which would have led to an automatic ban. He admitted failing to stop at a red light at Northam Road on May 26, claiming he was on his way to take a woman to the city’s maternity unit, but pleaded a case of exceptional hardship that others would suffer if he lost his livelihood should he be disqualified and be unable to work. Magistrates accepted his case and instead of a ban fined him £83, put three points on his licence, and ordered him to pay £335 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. |

well considering there are drivers out there with over 20 points on their licenses and not banned 12 doesn't seem so bad but will the council let him renew his badge ? |

His record says he's a menace on the road with no regard for any laws, as usual the Judge bought the bleeding heart story which although may have some truth to it isn't correct or totally honest at all. Never trust a Scummer anyway, they'll shaft you as soon as you turn your back http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/S_PORTSMOUTH.HTM |

Speeding points are very easy to get it just takes one moments carelessness so in a job like this where you are out on the road a lot of hours speeding points don't neccessarily mean you are a bad driver |

Now, without wishing to sound like a heartless (take your pick) if you ask me it would've been a good opp to remove another public ripping off driver, because those who run red lights, amass multipule speeding tickets and lay the everyone depends on me card down are infact simply selfish people who don't care about anyone other than themselves. Lets hope he doesn't kill anyone in future eh.....I'm sorry I was driving on the pavement because my passenger can only walk 3 steps and the kerb was too far away, I had to get her home quick as she had friends coming to dinner and had to get the bird in the oven in time, it wasn't my fault someone was stupid enough to use the pavement at the same time and they should've heard me coming because my RPM gauge said 4000 rpm at the time and it should've been enough to let people know I was approaching. I can see three enhanced lies in the bits I listed, if you can't Would you like to buy some snow. |

Thankyou Skip, I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see past what is the usual excuses. And for those who are interested, NO it's not I want to see him lose his license, but right now he will be laughing at the justice system because he's played it and won, I think 6 mths Off the road would've been a better punishment myself, and if anyone can't tell what sort of driver the man is from the list of previous offences then I guess you will be easy meat for any salesman in the future. Southampton is loaded with speed camera's, so you need a Tom Tom to remind you where they are, he obviously doesn't have one, Southampton isn't as bad as the rest of the country, ppl still go out there and there are things to do there, unlike my sheethole which a liberal council has destroyed systematically in the name of property price manipulation, but back to topic, he just reads like a GP driver who doesn't have any regard for anyone other than himself, we all get caught now and again, but 9 pts already says the law is for everyone else to obey but not him. |

If you had read my first post on this thread doom i did mention that licensing might see it a different way and I would challenge Anyone on here to honestly say they never exceed the speed limit on the way to a job or push their luck with a traffic light when the traffic's bad |

And it would be interesting to know precisely what his offences consist of - was he one or two mph over the limits, or 20-30 mph, say? Was he marginally through a red light or was it on red for ages? I mean, who hasn't marginally gone through one of these silly red lights in the middle of the night which seem designed to change when you approach them and there's no other traffic for mile around? |

Nope, I'm saying anyone with a brain these days runs a Tom Tom with camera alerts, thats not to say he wasn't caught by a unit though. And yes it would be interesting to know if he was doing 20mph past a school at 3pm or 40mph at that time. I don't think there's any marginal about it, marginal wouldn't get you a ticket, when the camera is active is when the light is against you, like that nasty one down near Arundel, you do know Arundel don't you Dusty, hehehehehe. |

How do you know it was a camera? And if it's all so clear cut how can the Arundel camera be 'nasty'? |
