Little Venice man found dead in car A Little Venice minicab driver lay dead in the back of his car for up to two days as passers-by assumed he was asleep, an inquest heard. Fears were raised when 36-year-old Lotifur Rahman left his Downfield Close home on August 31 following a row with his wife and had no contact with his family for two days. Westminster Coroner's Court heard on Wednesday that Mr Rahman's brother and a friend searched the streets of Maida Vale looking for his minicab, which they eventually found near the junction of Formosa Street and Shirland Road. His lifeless body was discovered on the back seat, on September 2. The court heard Mr Rahman had an argument with his wife, who was expecting their fourth child, over their financial worries which ended in him smashing a television. Although he was a devout Muslim, he had begun to drink alcohol heavily on a regular basis. He left his house, apparently to go to work, but his brother and a friend became worried when they had no contact with him and discovered his minicab office in Chamberlayne Road, Queen's Park, had also not heard from him. After searching the streets for his car, they found it around the corner from his home. PC Philip Ducker, of Paddington Green police station, said: "I'm sure people passed and thought there's a man sleeping in the car. "It looked like he had gone into the back seat to have a sleep. "It would be a relatively well-travelled road, there's public house probably 50 metres away, which is a busy public house." A post mortem revealed he died from alcohol intoxication, after drinking more than four times the legal drink-drive limit. Westminster coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox recorded a verdict of death by misadventure. http://westminster.londoninformer.co.uk ... ead-i.html |
