Walker killed by cab

A WALKER died after he was mowed down by a taxi yesterday — despite the efforts of ANOTHER cabbie to protect him.

The victim was run over on a semi-rural road in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, in the early hours.

Cops investigating the tragedy said the driver of a Skoda private hire car had reported stopping after seeing the 31-year-old man walking on a dangerous 60mph stretch towards Darnley.

But a white Hackney cab approached the scene and drove AROUND the stationary Skoda before colliding with the man.

He was rushed to the Southern General Hospital where medics were unable to save him.

The victim's name was being withheld by police last night until his relatives had been informed.

Strathclyde Police appealed for witnesses.

They are especially interested in anyone who may have seen the victim near Glasgow's Round Toll.

Police name man who died after being run over by taxi



A MAN knocked down and killed by a taxi was named yesterday as James McIntyre.

The 31-year-old was hit on Kennishead Road in Thornliebank, Glasgow, early on Sunday morning.

Police believe he was walking along the busy road out of the city when a white Skoda private-hire cab stopped.

Moments later, a white Hackney cab drove around the stationary vehicle and hit James, of Barrhead, East Renfrewshire.

Paramedics found him lying unconscious.

They treated his injuries and rushed him to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow but he was later declared dead.

James's family were devastated by his death. They released a statement saying: "James was a muchloved father, fiance, son, brother and uncle."

A pal added: "It's tragic that he has been taken from us so young."
