Council sends boy, 4, in taxi alone A FOUR-year-old boy was allowed to travel more than 15 miles on his own in a taxi following a mix-up. The boy was supposed to have been accompanied by an escort arranged by Worcestershire County Council’s children’s services for the taxi ride between Worcester and Kidderminster. But a mix-up between the council and the taxi company meant the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had to make the journey on his own. His father was distraught when he found his son was unaccompanied while meeting him after school at a contact centre in Kidderminster and complained to the council. He has since received a letter of apology giving assurances that his son, who is in foster care, had not been left on his own before or since. He said: “Anything could have happened to him. I was fuming. He didn’t know where he was going. "It isn’t safe to send a four-year-old kid on his own in a taxi. It’s totally out of order. Apologies don’t make it any better. "It shouldn’t have happened in the first place.” The father said he was considering legal action. In the letter to the father, Rob Kyle, a team manager at the council’s children’s services department, confirmed a request was made for an escort by social workers, but it was “not clear” why one was not present when the boy boarded the taxi. He said the department would be investigating why the “oversight” occurred and would contact the boy’s father once a response had been received from the taxi company. Mr Kyle added: “We have ensured that following this incident, [the boy] has had an escort every day.” A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said: “We are aware of this incident which unfortunately was an oversight. “We have written to the family and steps have been taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” http://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/941 ... axi_alone/ |

Ian Brady and Ian Huntley were not alone 3. Will some compo help? If the contract was for an escorted passenger then the taxi firm are liable for termination due to non-compliance |

Im thinking this is an access visit (contact centre) to keep fighting parents apart and allow each (dad in this case) access, obviously mum wasnt at school to see the child off, surely a 4 year old would have to be "handed over" by staff? Quote: The father said he was considering legal action. maybe looking after his own family/child would do him more good |

And if this parent was so honest and above board WTF is the lad meeting him at a contact centre?

Supervised access, that speaks volumes Anyway I'm sure using his child to obtain unnecessary compensation will help this poor father get over the shock of his child being safely driven by a taxi driver to school

The kiddy was probably safer in the car with the CRB checked driver than at any time in its life..... |

Just about as bad as the compo culture itself. It just encourages them

"It shouldn’t have happened in the first place.” CRB check and schools badge are checks and conditions for any driver in order to carry children as passengers.... so then the child is not considered in an unsafe situ.... it is however more prudent that an escort is present.... then the driver can 'drive' and the escort can act in 'loco parentis'.... making a safer team operation. Even better is that parents are in a position to 'parent'.... .... then it wouldn't have happened in the first place. |

Well said Stephenn, but the facts wouldn't have made for such a good story, and wouldn't have allowed the father to wallow in his self-proclaimed victimhood and sniff out the possibility of compo. |

Jesus this country gets better by the minute. He's in Foster Care for a reason. It was a mistake by the Council, give the father some beer tokens for Wetherspoons that will shut him up. |
