A driver in our district gets called in for overcharging X 4 and driving in an erratic manner along a pedestrian area of town nearly colliding with a pedestrian. Reported for driving while using his mobile phone, driving with no hands etc etc. The Council were going to let him off until somoene got in touch with them and quoted Section 52 of the Road Safety act and the Councils stance last year when 12 drivers were suspended for over ranking. He's suspended for 4 weeks as from the 27th of December.

Well I can kind of see the logic in that a suspension could 'make' a driver fit and proper, but not the bit about, er, suspending the suspension until the 27th. Perhaps the thinking is that if he missed out on the Christmas rush then it would make him worse rather than rehabilitate him, a bit like the argument that a prison sentence would make a criminal worse rather than rehabilitate - too harsh a punishment can be counterproductive. Either that or they don't have a clue
