South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of the local man in Merthyr Tydfil. The incident happened at 22:10 GMT in the town centre, at the junction of the eastern by-pass and Church Street. Police said he had been with a woman beforehand and was in collision with a black Vauxhall Astra estate taxi. He died of his injuries in hospital. Lowestoft: Taxi crashes after driver attacked POLICE in Lowestoft are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery on a taxi driver on New Year’s Day, which resulted in the taxi colliding with a lamppost. At about 2.15am a taxi driver picked up a fare of two men from near to the Winelodge on Bridge Road, Oulton Broad in his VW Sharan. The men said they wanted to go to Yarmouth Road. During the journey the men said they were not going to pay. The taxi driver then turned into Yarmouth Road with the intention of driving to the town’s police station. One of the men put his arm around the driver’s neck and demanded money from him – causing the driver to lose control of his car which then collided with a lamppost. Both men ran from the vehicle along Yarmouth Road, with one turning into Station Road. One of the men is described as white, with a big build and short shaven hair. He was wearing a blue jumper. The second man was also white, about 22 and wore a red and black check shirt and jeans. Anyone with information should call Lowestoft Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Seems like a lot of incidents in just one night but when you consider that there were millions of people out getting drunk all over the country with just taxi drivers out on the roads the odds are against us. I bet there were more incidents involving cars and trees or cars and Walls but they don't seem as newsworthy....... |

All my Punters were well behaved, including the Drunks, except One. When he got in I did not realise that, in August, I had taken him to the local Police Station for failure to pay and vandalising the Cab. He had spent that night at Her Majesties Pleasure. I managed to persuade him that the outcome would be similar, should he not pay, and so he anti'd up. But no Tip! |
