BRITAIN'S first black female MP was engulfed in a racism storm today after she claimed white people love playing "divide and rule".
Outspoken Labour frontbencher Diane Abbott's remark sparked calls for her to resign after she posted the comment on Twitter yesterday.

Apology maybe but resigning as an MP don't think so thats hardly up to the standards of profumo et al I think it gets silly the way no one is allowed to speak their mind these days

I'd love to see her reaction if one of her white colleagues made such a remark about black people.

I doubt she'd give up her seat, but a spell on the back benches will probably be on the cards.

Couldn't care less.

She lost any good will from the Sussex massive when she was part of a government that slagged off, and tried to stop, kids going to schools other than their local one, and yet sent her lad to private school.

it comes with the territory you can't serve in parliament if you're not two faced !

I think the suggestion was that she resign from the Opposition front bench - not from her seat as an MP.

But I may be wrong.

I like her too - there arn't that many that put their foot in it so often - or so dramatically.

Socialist?

School - private for her kids - most local for the rest of us.

Supporter of Gordon Brown - but only until he was the Prime Minister.

Stands for Party Leadership - and gets through the first round because another candidate gives support (to split the vote?).

Regular contributor to "This Week" and managed to make many "faux pas" thereon.

Yes, let her stay - I want to see what's next. =D>

Now she's having a go at (London) taxi drivers:

Yes, Steve McNamara is entirely correct - there are prayer rooms in knowledge schools and there are some ethnic minority drivers, so there can't be any racist London drivers, can there? [-(

So is being "stupid" a legitimate reason to broom someone? [-X

Or is it the case that there's no legal obligation to stop for a flag? :-k

Maybe Abbott will have to go the ranks in future.

Or phone for a PHV. :D

White people have been taking it on the chin for decades now, but if you say anything back you have had it, it is a one way street unfortunately.

Interesting comment from Steve McNamara being in mind some of bob Oddy's comments in the past.
