Taxi firm checks on drivers

Front facing cameras fitted

A Wolverhampton taxi company's put front-facing cameras in its cars to check out what the driver's doing.

ABC Countdown Cars has done it so it can look at things like how aggressive the driving is, in case there's ever a complaint.

The cameras can watch what the driver did, as well as provide data on G-forces to see how violently the driver was taking corners, as well as assess how heavy their braking was.

The firm says the only drivers who would complain are the ones who have something to hide.

Big Brother is alive and running the show in Wolverhampton then !

I'm not so sure the statement of only the ones with something to hide would object is true. A lot of people don't feel comfortable with someone looking over their shoulder at everything. It can add stress to the workplace and perhaps affect their driving and concentration of the driver I doubt I would be as focused on my driving if in the back of my head I was also worrying about wether any mistakes were being recorded

Just a thought.

Most of us will be aware that few Cars have sales that exceed £20.00 per hour, on a week by week basis.

The Cost of viewing these Recordings will, almost certainly, be quite time consuming and therefore expensive, which will negate any potential earnings that the Cab Company may have been making.

So, after the first couple of days, they will only be viewed if there has been some form of complaint, or a problem of some kind, that needs to be referenced.

I don't have cameras in my vehicles yet but I do have trackers. Apart from showing where my cars are they also tell me what speed the drivers have been doing. The most important use we have is proving that a vehicle has been to a job. In particular we take some kids to school who do not always tell the truth :wink: . On one occasion the kid was adamant that the car had not been to pick him up for a whole week. County hall were going to take his word for it and not pay us for the work that week. A simple print off from the tracker soon sorted that out. :D This sort of thing is useful when passengers ring up and say that they are still waiting for their taxi 30 minutes after it was due.
