Here in Chester we currently have 3 zones due to coucil restructuring. However the council seem to be going all out to abolish the zones and harmonize conditions across the whole borough.

We have just started ro recieve a consultation which is in my opinion a total charade. Considering what is at stake the council have wrapped it all up inot a nice shiny little leaflet which is going out to lots of people who will decide what is best for us.

We all know that the decision has already been made and this is just the council way of justifying what they want to do.

WTF do Councils have zones?? Zones IMO are there for one purpose and that is to create earning zones. It's about time you lot in Chester gave your heads a shake, "zones don't work."

How many cities in the UK have Taxi zones? Durham got rid last year, I don't know if there's any left?

Response:

Cheshire West and Cheshire are aware of the Law Commission’s review of the licensing of PHV and HCs – However, there is no guarantee that the Law Commission’s report will be adopted into legislation or if so adopted, what the timescale will be. It was therefore decided after consultation with Senior Officers and the Chairman of the Licensing Committee that we should go ahead with the consultation. The consultation will be used to inform our policy which may or may not be modified by the results of the Law Commission report/resultant changes in legislation. Important issues in relation to vehicle type, wheelchair accessibility and the zoning of HCs are all covered by the consultation which are not directly contained within the Law Commission’s investigation. The public view on these subjects are very important to us, you will be aware that we are moving towards a “localism agenda” requiring us to consider the views of residents in almost everything we do. The consolation is funded by the HC&PHV trades by way of their licence fees.
