Hi, I know this is a long shot but I would be extremely grateful if anyone could put me in touch with either the driver of black taxi plate number 570 in Manchester City Centre or Central Hire Co M/cr Ltd (which seems to own the taxi). I have already tried contacting Manchester City Council but they have been absolutely useless and cut me off twice!

This taxi took me from Spinningfields to Manchester Oxford Road Station last night (Wednesday) at 8pm. The driver was a white guy, aged about 40 with close cropped light coloured hair. I left my purse in the taxi and am desperate to get it back. It doesn't contain any money but it had in some pictures from my wedding and some cards and notes of huge sentimental value. I am offering a generous reward for its safe return.

If anyone can help please post here, I will check back regularly.

Thank you very much in advance

Have you tried contacting central hire co I'm sure they'll be in a phone book somewhere or even ask around at the rank someone might know the driver and be able to contact him

Also if the rules up there are the same as here we are supposed to hand anything like that to the police so it might be worth trying the police to see if one has been handed in

They are required to keep a register of hackney carriage operators, this isnt available online (I checked).

You could go into the council offices and request to instect the register?

Thanks for this. I have already contacted the Police but they said the rules in Manchester are that any found items get handed to the Council rather than the Police. I've contacted the Council and they've been incredibly unhelpful :-( Also, I have googled the company that owns the taxi and the number that's listed for them is coming up as an incorrect number when I call it :-(

Thank you so much for trying to help. I also found that number for Central Hire Co M/Cr Ltd but the line is dead! I was hoping someone might be able to give me a proper contact number for them?

It's ten times further from here, so not much I can do to help.
Some of the Manchester guys may be more help.

If this guy works nights, he may not be out of his bed yet.

I have just received a call from Manchester City Council Licensing Department - they actually saw this post too!! The chap who called was really helpful and has contacted the taxi driver in question. He said I was given incorrect information during my calls this morning when they refused to help or contact the driver and he is now doing his best to assist. :)

What do you do for a living if you do not mind me asking?

You remembered so much detail...........Plate number, the age of the guy/ish, Light coloured hair/cropped style, the type of cab..............you are not a cop because you would not have asked for help.

Most could not even tell you the time of day/night.............but you! =D>

Ha ha ha, my husband (who actually is a cop) says I am the least observant person in the world! I'm a solicitor and I only remembered the taxi's plate number because it was written on my receipt. I am so grateful to the taxi driver for handing in the purse. I have left him money, chocolates and a thank you note :-)

I'm glad you got it all sorted out and left the driver a thankyou reward.
