Northwich taxi association given green light PLANS for Northwich’s first taxi association have been given the green light by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC). As reported in the Guardian’s January 18 edition, cabbie John Woodward, of Winnington-based JJ’s Taxis, hopes to restore consumer confidence in the taxi trade by introducing a scheme to regulate fares, companies and drivers. Council officers have now given his code of conduct, constitution and sticky badge the thumbs-up, spurring John on a drive to recruit more members to kick-start the scheme. He said: “It shows we can work together with the council to provide a good service for the public. “The badge is not there as a discount scheme or a special deal or something for this week or month. “That badge will hopefully signify anyone displaying that badge is an active member of the association looking to up their game. “It is all about raising the standards of customer service within the industry and hopefully that badge will be a quick recognition for those who are getting their standards up there.” He added: “It should give them consumer confidence they can walk down the rank and if they see the badge, they know everything is going to be alright and they will be given a fair rate.” All drivers in the Vale Royal area are invited to sign up to the programme, which will include signing a code of conduct. The code aims to tackle over-charging and the pricing of fares, stating that all rates should be those authorised by CWAC, while also covering issues such as professionalism and providing good customer service, acting ethically and increasing customer confidence in the taxi industry. A spokesperson for CWAC added: “The council welcomes the setting up of this association. “There are similar groups that taxi drivers have set up in the Ellesmere Port and Chester area where they make their regulations and there is nothing like that in the Northwich area. “The association also means we can have meaningful dialogue with drivers about their issues.” John is now actively seeking members for the association and is asking anyone interested to call 01606 76262, 07533541122 or email jjserv@sky.com. http://www.northwichguardian.co.uk/news ... een_light/ |
