Hereford rape update - taxi driver remains in custody

A TAXI driver arrested on suspicion of raping a woman is still in Police custody.

Detectives swooped on Ross Road in Hereford yesterday afternoon and arrested a 34-year-old man.

Two women in their late 20s got into a vehicle they believed was a taxi on Commercial Road, Hereford, at around 1.30am on Friday morning.

The car then drove down Blueschool Street - stopping briefly - before going down Edgar Street and Newtown Road to Grandstand Road, where one of the women was dropped off.

The taxi then drove travelled to the Kings Acre Road area where the driver brought it to a halt.

It is there that the driver subjected the remaining woman to what police describe as "a serious sexual assault" in the back.

He then drove on to drop the woman off near her home.

The specific details of the incident are being kept back by police for operational reasons.

"I can confirm that the man we arrested on suspicion of rape yesterday afternoon remains in custody this morning," said Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Barnes, from Hereford Police.

"A major investigation was launched as soon as the incident was reported and our investigative work is continuing today.

"I'd like to reassure local people that we are doing all we can to ensure the man responsibile for this sexual assault is brought to justice."

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 0300 333 3000 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

I've sent Leroy a text message telling him to make room in his cell, I've sent him a package of Lube so he can smash the rapists back doors in.
