PH driver without insurance or licence banned

A private-hire who worked without a private hire licence or insurance has been banned from the roads for a year.

Abdur Rahman racked up 36 penalty points and was ordered to pay £775 after pleading guilty to six counts of driving a minicab without the necessary licence or insurance.

Cambridge Magistrates’ Court heard Rahman, of Peverel Road in the city, had previously held the correct documents but had not renewed either.

The 39-year-old, also known as Jillur Rahman, was exposed following an investigation by South Cambridgeshire District Council’s licensing team.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, and fined a total of £200 for driving without a private hire licence and correct insurance.

Rahman must also pay the council’s costs of £560 and a £15 victim surcharge.

Cllr Sue Ellington, the authority’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “Many of our residents rely on cab services to help them get out and about, and for their safety, it is vital that only drivers with a valid private hire driving licence and insurance are driving them.

“Mr Rahman had neither of these, and I hope his prosecution will send out a warning to anyone else thinking of driving cabs illegally.”
