'Prime suspect' in Bradford murders left UK 6:58pm Monday 6th February 2012 A double murder suspect left the country the same day the bodies of his two alleged victims were found dumped by the roadside, a jury heard. Mohammed Zubair took the 7.45pm flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Pakistan on May 11 last year – just hours after a passing motorist discovered Ahmedin Khyel and Imran Khan lying dead with severe head injuries in New Lane, near Tong Village. A trial at Bradford Crown Court has been told that minicab driver Zubair is “prime suspect” for the murders. A statement read to the jury yesterday from Irfan Illahi, manager of Pakistan International Airlines at Leeds Bradford Airport, said Zubair had a return ticket to Islamabad. He was due to land at Manchester Airport on July 11, but was not on the flight. Mr Khyel and Mr Khan were murdered at Zubair’s home in Heath Terrace, Barkerend, Bradford, on the evening on May 10, the jury has been told. Prosecutor Tahir Khan QC alleges the motive for the killings was an affair between Zubair’s wife, Kainat Bibi, and Mr Khyel. Mr Khan said Zubair was angry when he found out about his wife’s relationship with London father of seven, Mr Khyel. He alleges Zubair attacked Mr Khyel, 35, and his friend Mr Khan, 27, of Gloucester Avenue, Bradford, with a hammer. Sabir Hussain, 40, of Wensleydale Road, Bradford, is on trial accused of murdering the men. Hussain, who worked with Zubair at Tyersal Private Hire, denies joining in the fatal attack with a dumb-bell bar. Mohammed Iqbal Mazar, 29, of Athol Road, Heaton, Bradford, pleads not guilty to perverting the course of justice by assisting in the removal of bloodstains and bloodstained items from the house. Zubair’s mother, Arab Sultana, has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by booking and paying for her son’s plane ticket. Bibi has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by lying to the police about where her husband was after the murders. The court heard that a woman rang Kashmir Travel in Bradford on May 11 saying she needed a ticket for a Pakistan flight for her son that day. She brought Zubair’s passport into the office and handed over £600 cash for the ticket. Sher Afsar, manager of Tyersal Private Hire on Sticker Lane, Bradford, said Zubair finished his shift at 11.34am on May 10. He rang later to ask if he could take a few days off and was told he could. Mr Afsar said Zubair seemed his normal self. Zubair’s brother, Abdul Nasser, said he returned from holiday in Pakistan with his family to find the police at his mother’s home in Heath Terrace on May 13. In a statement read to the court, he said the family knew Zubair as “our little one”. The police were looking for him and said they were concerned for his safety. Mr Nasser said his brother’s wife, Kainat Bibi, disappeared a few years earlier. She was found in Birmingham and came back to the family home. The trial continues.
