Police appeal for witnesses after violent attack on taxi driver

POLICE are trying to trace two men involved in an attack on a Nantwich taxi driver.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 29 when a ‘Cars R Us’ taxi driver, in a blue Ford Mondeo Estate, picked up two men from Wall Fields Road, in Nantwich, at 5.30am.

During the journey to Macclesfield, the two passengers became violent before one of them attempted to steal the driver’s money belt.

DC Ali Greenwood said: “The first attack happened as they approached the Arclid crossroads on the A50. One of the men in the back of the car tried to choke the driver. As a result the car stopped at the cross roads.

“The same passenger then attacked the driver again by hitting him, climbing into the front seat and trying to bite his face.

He then tried to grab the driver’s money belt around his waist.”

Police say they are keen to speak to a female dog walker who passed the car at the time of the second attack, at around 6am to 6.30am.

She would have been alerted to the car as the horn was blaring as the driver fought off his attacker.

The second man stopped the attacker as they both left the vehicle. The driver was then able to reverse at speed and escape.

He was left relatively unscathed but was shocked by the ordeal.

The main attacker is described as white, about 19-years-old, slim and about 5’ 9” to 5’ 11”. He had blonde/brown hair and was wearing a light grey hoodie with the hood up and dark bottoms.

The second man is described as white, around the age of 30, of slim build and about 5’ 7” to 5’ 9” tall. He had blondish cropped hair and a tattoo on his right arm. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Anyone with any information should contact DC Ali Greenwood at Macclesfield CID on the new 101 number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 230 of January 29.
