Our clean-up Glasgow drive gains hire ground Hackney cab company nails our colours to its mastTHE challenge of making Glasgow a greener, cleaner place has been given the backing of the city’s largest taxi company.
Glasgow Taxis has come on board the Evening Times’ Streets Ahead drive with branding on one of its cars.
The company is backing the biggest community campaign of its type in Scotland.
With our partners, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Housing Association, City Charitable Trust and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, we will create, support, finance and resource a network of Street Champions with the aim of transforming every community in Glasgow.
They will lead local improvements ranging from planting community gardens to organising clean-ups.
The Evening Times believes if every street has just one champion making a difference in their community we can change an entire city for the better.
Since it was launched in May last year, Streets Ahead has helped scores of initiatives across the city.
Stephen Flynn, vice- chairman of the cab firm, said: “Glasgow Taxis is proud to support the Evening Times’ Streets Ahead Campaign.
“As a business we always endeavour to help the local community, whether it be through charity initiatives such as our continued support of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice or helping out with the annual Children’s Outing.
“Time and again our drivers have shown their commitment to the city, voluntarily staffing night zones in the town centre or working closely with many organisations to ensure everyone in Glasgow is able to get home safely after a night out.
“Community Champions are an inspiration to people across Glasgow and should be commended.”
