... have a brain meltdown and vote for Salmond's proposal, would those born within the Union have the right to retain UK citizenship and its passport rather than that of the parochial banana republic?

This right was available to those within the Irish republic, post independence. I don't see why the Scots should be any different.
I think it's still available to them and their decendants.

BTW The UK doesn't have citizens, it has subjects.

As for the banana republic, I'll refrain from the obvious bait.
Suffice it to say that you will be free to leave if you so wish after independence, though I'm not so sure our southern cousins will be pleased to have you.

Touche. Subjects. =D>

I know its early days, but I can't recall any mention of a citizen's charter for an "independent" Scotland.

And as Salmond HAS indicated the Monarchy will be retained, I can't the subjects becoming citizens, can you?

I love your invitation to leave though. That's a real gas

Though, as it's not me moving the goalpsosts here, why should I consider going anywhere?

However, who will be funding the refugee camps in Berwick and Carlisle?

If some Scots wish to keep UK citizenship, then good for them.

Wouldn't be a problem for me.

Me too, tbh.....as I've said before, half my family are scots.....half are english and there's irish in there somewhere too.

In our local toa we've as many scots as english.....in my golf club we tend to err on the side of trips to scotland and are generally treated well when we get there.....strange....the further north we go the more hospitable the people are.

I've a little news for you reggie......the day scotland gets independence is the day scots will probably get a decent level of democracy.

you forget....those nasty tories from london had a majority in scotland only a few decades ago......thatcher ruined that......but once your gone from the union the tories will return.....but this time with a scots accent.....tories who'll use the braveheart banner far better than the snp......an snp who would have to evolve into a proper political party with a view to the right or left.

lets not forget those scots labour politicians who headed south......and actually did well.....those will remain in scotland.

the scotland that votes for independence now.....will be very different politically in one parliaments time, yes it'll be scottish.....but maybe not the scottish you want.

Scots labour MPs that "did well"?

Sounds like a question from the quiz show "pointless"

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it is, name them

The party lost it for me when they abandoned their roots and metamorphosed in the labour Tory Party. As distinct from the LibDem Tories and the Tory Tories.

Many former colonies have citizens, rather than subjects, and still retain the monarchy. Australia for example.
Personally, I see no need for a monarchy in this day and age, but that's for all Scots to decide.

Citizen's charter?
Again, that will be for all Scots to decide after independence.
One thing at a time. :D

Stay or leave? It's up to you.
I hope you'll stay, the place will be that bit quieter without you. 8)

As for refugees in Berwick or Carlisle, they will still be subjects of the rUK, and therefore London's problem.
