Cabbie fined for smoking in taxi

A TAXI driver who broke the workplace smoking ban by having a cigarette in his cab, then throwing the butt out of the window, has been fined.

Alfonso Desideri, aged 42, was given the chance of paying a fixed penalty for both offences, but denied he had been smoking and failed to pay up.

He later changed his plea to guilty and was fined £73 for each offence and ordered to pay costs of £150.

Desideri, of Langdale Close, Linacre Woods, Chesterfield, was caught when a council officer saw him smoking in the Hackney carriage he was driving and then throwing the cigarette out of the window in Whittington Hill, Chesterfield, last September.

I keep telling my drivers to get out of their cars but they still think as long as the window is down its OK along with about a dozen other local drivers one day the council will have a blitz and they'll get a shock !

The subject matter of the post was obvious from the title, so no one was exactly forced to read it.

And we should be complimenting the likes of CC for posting articles on here rather than complaining.

I don't understand why you think it is "drivel". It should serve as yet another warning to those that think they are above the law.

All the smokers smoke in their cars round here abeit without passengers on board-silly rule unless drivers are facing £1000 fines if caught
