UPDATE: Taxi driver appears in court charged with rape


A 25-year-old taxi driver has appeared in court charged with raping a female customer.

Amir Ali, of Boyn Hill Road in Maidenhead, appeared at Slough Magistrates' Court this morning over the alleged attack in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman, claims she and a friend got into Ali's taxi in Queen Street after a night out in Maidenhead town centre.

Ali is alleged to have dropped her friend off in Cippenham before pulling the car over in a residential area of Slough and raping her.

The victim reported it to police and Ali was arrested on Sunday.

In court today he spoke only to confirm his details and was told he would be granted bail subject to certain conditions being met.

These include a £10,000 assurance to be paid by his uncle.

No plea was entered.

Ali is set to appear at Reading Crown Court on June 21 for a case management hearing.

hmmm.... his word against hers again best wait for the verdict bet there was no cctv in the vehicle

There would need to be some forensic evidence for this to even get to court I would have thought.

They'll only need her clothes and his, any of his DNA on her clothes and he's history.

Yes but that wouldn't prove it was consensual or forced though hence the comment his word against hers I would have to say though that it is highly likely he did do the deed on the balance of probability if there is dna evidence

Q. Can the new digital breed of taximeters be read like a digital tacho to show stops/starts/speeds?

I remember years ago an expert read an old-style analogue tacho chart for a haulage firm in brum and he worked out what route a driver took, he was followed/watched and at the exact same spot as shown by the tacho examination the driver met a van and pilfered stuff out the truck..

I think they could if programmed to, but pretty certain they don't.
