Taxi drivers angry that they must all take a special test THE chairman of the organisation that represents Stratford-upon-Avon’s taxi drivers yesterday (Wednesday) voiced “absolute disgust” at a decision by the district council’s ruling cabinet that they must all now take a special driving test. Roy Davies, chairman of the Stratford Taxi Association, said he had no objection to new taxi drivers taking the test. “What we ask is that drivers who’ve been driving with a licence for ten to 20 years, who have experience of driving in all conditions—with no accidents or incidents of any sort—should not have to take the test,” he said. “Why should we have to prove we can drive a car?” source: http://www.stratford-herald.com/Local%2 ... -test.html |

Dusty Bin wrote: In other words they're worried that they might fail the test Wasnt there a survey done about the driving theory test a few years ago - something like 5% of drivers reckoned it was a good idea for existing drivers to be made to complete and pass - whereas 95% thought it was a good idea solely for new licensees? Very probably, and looks like I'm one of the five per cent  I'd be willing to take my chances, and if I couldn't manage it then too bad. But overall I think it would deter some of the more marginal drivers, for example those just 'passing through' until they get a 'proper job'.

I can't believe it isn't standard practice for taxi/ph hire drivers to have to sit a driving test of some sort before they are granted a license. Surely it's the best way to decide if passengers are likely to from A to B safely |

Didn't we have to take a test before we were granted a driving licence in the first place? |

For one hour in my life I managed to drive my vehicle well enough to be let loose with it and now nobody will check my standard of driving unless I do something wrong, but, they'll trust that I am a safe enough driver to ferry the public about. Is that a good thing? |

Rules have been bent anyway http://www.eu-taxidrivers.co.uk/training.html So, someone whose never trod British soil can arrive and get straight to work just because they took a test in Budapest online, and how does any council know who actually took the test anyway, this is where your baron's flock so they can mug off the next batch of immigrant workers with lies of wealth to be had. |

The big problem is that the test is taken by the dsa who treat experienced drivers the same way as they treat learners if you don't drive like a learner you fail several drivers round our way have had to take it twice most were failed because they didn't make it obvious enough when looking in the mirror by turning their heads or because they didn't hold the steering wheel in the correct manner when turning a corner etc etc I think perhaps some other form of testing perhaps a seperate organisation might be more appropriate and acceptable to drivers |
