Woman injured after thief threatens her with knife in taxi abduction terror
A CAR thief posing as a taxi driver subjected a young woman to a horrifying ordeal at knifepoint yesterday.
The maniac stopped outside a college after she flagged him down in the street.
She jumped into the car but quickly realised the man wasn’t a taxi driver.
She desperately tried to get out – but couldn’t get the door open.
The driver threatened her with a knife then took off at speed.
But he crashed into a stationery lorry outside Adam Smith College in Kirkcaldy.
The taxi spun out of control and smashed into a wall.
The driver ran off towards nearby Hutchison Flour Mill, leaving his victim trapped in the passenger seat.
Staff and students poured out of the college when they heard the crash and came to the aid of the injured woman.
They also helped a pedestrian who had been forced to jump out of the way of the speeding car.
The woman, believed to be a student at the college, was taken to nearby Victoria Hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Police arrested the man in the grounds of the flour mill. He had earlier walked into the car park of Taxi Central and jumped into a private hire cab before driving away.
A witness said: “I saw the girl get into what she thought was a taxi then she quickly tried to get out again.
“But the guy shot off.
“He only got a few yards before smashing into a lorry then spinning round and hitting the wall.
“The taxi was a write-off and the girl was trapped in the passenger side.
“The emergency services arrived quickly and police cordoned off the area while firefighters cut the girl free.
“Paramedics strapped her into a stretcher with a full back and neck support brace.”
Taxi Central director Mike Brown said: “We got the guy on CCTV. He didn’t get far before the police caught him.”
Adam Smith College vice principal Ian Harrington added: “Our students and staff were on the scene very quickly and did an amazing job.”
