Middlesbrough cabbie hit passenger with wheel brace A TAXI driver has admitted striking a passenger with a wheel brace - saying he feared he was about to be attacked during a dispute over the fare. Bilal Hussain claimed he felt threatened and feared being attacked when he lashed out. He had previously denied an assault charge and a trial had begun at Teesside Crown Court earlier this month. But the 45-year-old has now pleaded guilty to the charge - on the basis he had feared being attacked himself. Shaun Dryden, defending, told the court: “There was a dispute regarding a taxi journey. “He was approached by two males. He perceived that he was about to be attacked by one or both men.” Mr Dryden said Hussain had driven away following the incident and was unaware that his victim - Paul Green - had been injured. Teesside Crown Court previously heard that Mr Green was left with a scar on his face, as well as cuts and bruises, following the dispute. He was treated at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Mr Green said he suffered headaches, concussion and memory loss, leaving him temporarily unable to work as a self-employed builder. The dispute had occurred on March 11 last year after Mr Green had been out drinking with family and friends in Saltburn and Redcar. Hussain had picked up the group in Redcar after the taxi firm allegedly agreed to make three drop-offs. The party stopped at Tesco where Mr Green then withdrew £30 for the cab fare. But he alleged that after making the second drop-off at Saltburn, Hussain refused to take Mr Green and his cousin any further. Mr Green told the court: “I remember arguing with him, I was adamant that I wanted to go to Skelton. “The argument got a little bit aggressive in speech. After that it was very hazy. “I remember being outside the taxi or around the taxi and being struck. Then I remember crawling away.” Hussain, of Park Road South, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. He will be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on April 20. I wonder if it was the weight of evidence against him that jolted his memory.

Middlesbrough cabbie ordered to pay £1.5k A CABBIE who hit a drunken passenger over the head with a wheelbrace was ordered to pay him £1,500 compensation. Bilal Hussain, 44, drove off at 4am from the centre of Saltburn, leaving the man needing eight stitches in hospital. He had picked up a group of men on Redcar high street in his minibus and the victim paid him £30 in advance for them to be taken to Skelton. But then the passengers asked to be dropped off at various addresses on the journey, and when they reached Saltburn, Hussain said he was not taking them any further. The dispute developed into pushing and shoving in the taxi, and when they got out the two remaining passenger rounded on him, said prosecutor Adrian Strong. Hussain picked up the wheelbrace from inside the taxi and hit one man over the head before driving off, Teesside Crown Court was told. Hussain told police he was not aware the man had been injured. Mr Strong said the Crown did not accept the men were offering violence. The victim, a self-employed building contractor, told police months later he was left unable to work at heights, still suffered headaches and was awaiting a CT scan. Only days before the attack, Hussain had appeared before magistrates for damaging another passenger’s car wing mirror in a dispute, and he had previous convictions for possessing offensive weapons, and been jailed for possession of heroin with intent to supply. Sean Dryden, defending, said: “There is no dispute that the two men were drunk, and he accepts that he should not have become involved. There must have been a loss of temper on his part to allow the situation to develop as it did.” Judge Michael Taylor said: “If I put you in prison, you will probably lose your job and he will not be compensated, but on balance I have decided that if you stay in work he can be compensated.” Hussain, of Park Road South, Middlesbrough, was ordered to pay £1,500 compensation and given a nine-month jail sentence suspended for two years with supervision after he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm assault on March 11 last year. I think he should lose his job for that but hey if a cabbie can keep his badge after a conviction for kidnapping or rape well that pales into insignificance so he will probably still be driving in a years time |

Before we have ourselves a hanging lets consider something, was the punter intimidating him prior to the driver doing what the tool is meant for...removing nuts lol, of course he's would try to deny it happened but what if he thought the punter was going to attack him so got in first rather than there be a picture of him here with his face slashed up, we can all sit in hindsight but at the time when it comes on top you just don't know how you may react, Simple answer is to vet better, if the guy is an over charger this would kick it off with the wrong person, and if he is an over charger then he's not honest and unsuitable, something a proper CRB might've revealed had there been one with any credibility, instead of us checking them why not put the onus on them to provide credible checkable references when applying, my mate had all sorts of issues getting his boy a badge because he had a criminal damage thing, yet one of my migrant mates got one no problem even though I know he's done stir in his own country before, and no I'm not going to nark him up because circumstances may show what he did might just have been a survival thing. |
