"A man died and three people were seriously hurt when a taxi overturned on the M40 near Oxford.

The car, travelling southbound, went through the central reservation barrier and ended up on the northbound carriageway at about 05:00 BST.

One of the three injured people is said to be in a critical condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The M40 remains closed northbound between junction 8 at Thame and junction 9 at Bicester.

The southbound carriageway reopened just before 11:00 BST.

Thames Valley Police are advising motorists to find alternative routes as the road closure is expected to be in place for several hours.

It is believed the white Mercedes people carrier-style taxi involved in the crash was travelling from the High Wycombe area.

Police said the vehicle was carrying six passengers and a driver, all of whom were men.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses who saw the taxi travelling along the M40 to come forward"
