BAA has sold the airport to the owners of London Gatwick and London City airports for £800 million.

So BAA have reaped their reward for making the airport a cash cow by introducing unwarranted charges on passengers, airlines and retailers.

Naked greed has been replaced by ... well we'll just have to wait and see.

But I won't hold my breath that things will get any better. After all, who, having bought a cash cow, is gonna do anything other than milk it?

Checkers cars (PH) will be there, as they are at Gatwick.

Dave Crouch.

He started running a minicab firm in London, then expanded into loads of minicab firms, then took over Gatwick about 12/13 years ago and has been there since. Alongside a few more local airports. Last I heard of him he was a tax exile in Monaco.

I would be amazed if the large PH firms don't set their eyes on Edinburgh Airport.

jasbar: you do have a very blinkered view of those that do business, don't you.

Apart for yourself of course, who works for only the most ethical of motives!

BAA still own Aberdeen airport. Plenty of dough being spent on it too.
Runway extension just finished, another in the offing. New routes, new operators.
I think they're planning to take some of their old custom with them

I'm 100% certain that BAA would still love to be the owner of Edinburgh Airport.

Back to the taxi/PH provision. Whoever is currently providing that service needs to be prepared to pay many times more what they presently do for the privilege, or find themselves a new spot to pick up from.

At Gatwick the provider pays an absolute fortune to pick up the work, and they now share the same airport owner.

Hasn't Gatwick just been given a multi billion pound upgrade? If so Endinburgh might just get the same.

I cant see Edinburgh airport meriting a mega bucks upgrade, its not running at full capacity yet and if anything air travel is forecast to drop slightly over the next few years as green Taxes and other green Issues to discourage to much flying start to bite. its got plenty Parking and the Arrivals areas are never exactly Choca Block either.

There was talk of another runway though...but who knows, i think Edinburgh was Scunnered with the Tram fiasco, the Locals might just dump on more noise from above and fight it.

Just a name change.

I think part of the recently renewed contract, which was won by Checkers, had a stipulation that the firm must be called GACs as the airport owners own that name.
