New look city but still stuck with old taxis

I wait with bated breath for the completion of the waterfront and V&A in Dundee. Maybe for the first time in decades it will put Dundee on the map for something positive and give Dundonians a reason to be proud of their city. It’s also great news that the drab and run-down railway station is at long last getting a multi-million pound makeover. It’s also good to see National Express Dundee’s new bus fleet carrying D C Thomson’s famous cartoon characters as the logo on some of their bus routes. It’s a shame however that visitors coming into the city will still be faced with the old pre-used ex-London taxis sitting plying their hire outside our soon to be new railway station and beautiful waterfront. I even had the misfortune of having to enter a taxi at the station which was M-registered — that must be nearly 20-years-old! Come on taxi trade, is not about time you cleaned up your act? After all, taxi travel isn’t a cheap mode of transport and Dundee deserves better. Also, could the aged transport system in Dundee be the reason the city is one of the worse cities for air pollution? Maybe the taxi trade should take a leaf out of National Express Dundee’s book and start putting on new vehicles in time to match the improvements of our city. If the taxi trade continues with their aged fleet, maybe the council should insist that all future taxis are new.

Not wrong eh?

But a shiny new taxi fleet requires investment.

And as long as there is a restriction that investment doesn't need to be made.

Open up the trade and let those who want to operate a quality service take over from the clique. And set a tariff that reflects the quality.

Anyone doubt that if the tariff was hiked that PH wouldn't hike theirs as well? After all, they're in it to make money, not provide a service for buttons. They too would raise the price to what the market would bear.

tx_op: Give us the kind of Governmental Grants the the Bus and Rail Companies are getting and maybe you'd get some of what you want.

Oh: and add an LA that allows you to put a picture of Dennis the Menace on the outside of your Cab
