Taxi driver threatened for cash at knifepoint

POLICE are hunting for a man who attempted to rob a taxi driver at knife point in Cheltenham.

Detectives are now appealing for witness to find the criminal after he ran off empty-handed from the incident, which happened at about 10pm on Sunday.

The offender got into the back of a black Ford Mondeo outside the Co-Op in Hester's Way Road before demanding the 30-year-old driver hand over his takings. His victim managed to get out of the car without handing anything over and the man, who was brandishing a knife ran off towards Village Road.

The would-be robber is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, in his early 20s and wearing a light grey hoodie, black gloves and a black scarf over his mouth.

Anyone with information about this crime should call police on 101, quoting incident 619 of April 29.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org. In some cases Crimestoppers offer rewards of up to £1000 where information leads to a conviction.
