Taxi driver broke rulesA TAXI driver has been landed with a £1,039 bill after picking up a fare contrary to his licence conditions.
Michael Clancy, 61, of Ashgrove, Killay, Swansea, was driving with a Hackney licence which only allowed him to pick up fares in Powys.
Swansea Magistrates Court was told that on September 29 last year, taxi licensing officers saw the plate on the taxi waiting in the city centre.
They got into the taxi requesting Clancy take them to Mumbles — he drove them there and did not use the radio or ask for a name from his passengers.
Magistrates heard that Clancy was invited to interview in October and November but did not attend.
Clancy had previously been prosecuted twice in August 2010 for breaching his licence. He was fined £200 each time.Clancy, who did not attend court, was fined him £600 and ordered to pay £424.02 in costs as well as a £15 victim surcharge.
