Social worker suspended after attack on taxi driver A racially aggravated attack on a taxi driver has led to a social care worker employed by the Royal Borough being suspended for misconduct.
Katy Robinson has been removed from her role for two years following a conduct hearing by the General Social Care Council.
The committee heard she had been convicted of attacking the unnamed driver by East Berkshire Magistrates Court following a trial in September.
The court was told that after a night out drinking in Windsor in February 2011, Robinson approached a taxi to ask what the fare to Holyport would be.
When he replied she responded by swearing and using racist language, before taking off her shoe and throwing it at the car.
Her boyfriend punched the driver, who is of Asian appearance, causing him to fall backwards.
As he fell he grabbed Robinson's lapel causing them both to topple over a wall, upon which she then punched him in the face three or four times.
Robinson was convicted of assault and threatening behaviour.
The latter offence was deemed to be racially aggravated.
She was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £300 in compensation to the driver and £750 court costs.
The conduct hearing went ahead without Robinson in London on Tuesday last week.
It was also told she had been given a caution for assault occasioning actual bodily harm in 2009.
The suspension became effective immediately. Robinson has the right to appeal within 28 days.
