SCHOOL RUN ABUSE DENIED

A TAXI driver employed on school runs tried to engage youngsters in sexual activity, showed them pornography and beat them, a jury heard.

Stephen Monaghan tried to get one child to touch him improperly, showed two children films of people being "rude" and beat them with a belt, Bristol Crown Court was told.

The allegations involve children aged under ten, the jury was told yesterday.

When the allegations came to light police forensically investigated computers at Monaghan's home and discovered 45 indecent images of children, the court heard.

The 44-year-old, of Selbrooke Crescent, Frenchay, denies two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two charges of causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under-16-year-old, regarding the older child. He further denies causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under 16-year-old, regarding the younger child.

He also denies six counts of making indecent photographs of youngsters.

Charles Thomas, prosecuting, said when the older child became unhappy the allegations were reported to the authorities at the end of 2010.

The youngster told police Monaghan had pulled their hand towards his private parts, above his jeans, but they managed to pull their hand free.

The older child also recounted being shown sex films by the driver.

There was an occasion when Monaghan requested that the older child carry out a sex act on him but they refused and fled, the court heard.

Mr Thomas said the younger child was interviewed and also recalled being shown pornographic pictures.

"The child remembers people being naked and people being rude on the computer," he said.

"It was something that happened when other children were there."

The younger child told police they "felt sick" after seeing the film, which featured children aged 13 to 14 lying naked together in bed, said Mr Thomas.

Both youngsters claim Monaghan hit them with a belt.

The older complainant claimed to have been struck on the back of the legs and the younger child complained of being hit on the wrist.

The jury was told police arrested Monaghan, he denied wrongdoing and was released on bail.

Police then found indecent photos of children on computers at his home – including 16 showing abuse of children by adults.

But although he admitted downloading adult pornography, Monaghan said he never deliberately accessed the child-abuse images.

The case continues.

I wonder how much of this would have happened if this driver had CCTV? :?

Or maybe I know.

Wasn't something similiar in Brighton? The driver "groomed" his special needs school child.

I agree CCTV would at the very least been a deterrent and helped clear the case, meaning less suffering for the victims.
Amazing how the so called business ppl of the cab trade can't work out how damadging these stories are for THIER business.

If he knows the system, and I expect he does, he'll deny all the charges and plead not guilty until it goes to trial, then, he'll change his plea at the last minute. Once, some dirty little deals been done to save everyone the trauma and expense of going through a court trial. :-|

I think all hell will break loose once convicted if he's done what he is alleged to have done then he deserves everything coming to him
