Cab? Not at this rate
May 16 2012 Birkenhead News
LAST week, I went to see Benjamin Zephaniah at St George’s Hall, and was enjoying the best of Liverpool.
At 9.45pm, I got in a black cab at the Empire end of Lime Street station. After stating my destination, the driver put the meter on rate 3, though it should only be rate 1 (as he should well know). When I told him this, he become aggressive and wouldn’t open the doors even when I told him I wished to get out and get in another taxi. After asking about 10 times, he opened the door.
I asked the driver behind what rate, and he too said 3. I walked to the other side of the station, and got a wonderful polite driver who charged me the correct rate, rate 1, and told me my destination was one mile within the boundary line, and that I should have taken the first driver’s number. I was just in such a panic I didn’t think to.
Hackney drivers need to stop trying to rip people off. There are some great ones, but so many put it deliberately on the wrong rate, although this was the first time one has been aggressive to me when told of their error. Thankfully, I am assertive and was sober, but God help any vulnerable person, or anyone a little tipsy.
The council need to seriously monitor the people applying for taxi badges – they need to have the right personality and attitude. I advise anyone to take the taxi number as soon as you sit down.

Toots, I think you are one of these, insufferable taxi driver, know it all types, just waiting to be wronged, by one of your colleagues.
Oh and before you start, I've been out on the town and taken the “wrong way” maybe not the way I would have gone, but I didn't get all bent out of shape, and feel the need to point out the error of his ways.
Get a grip for feck sake.
Why don't you try living in a world where you don't have a point proving what a goodie two shoes you are?
