Taxi firm couple left shaken by robbery

A COUPLE who were attacked in a robbery at the taxi firm they own have spoken of their ordeal for the first time.

Simon Wesson was hit over the head with a rock, beaten and tied up along with his partner Caroline Moore.

The two suspects stole a significant amount of cash and a Toyota car, later found abandoned nearby.

Mr Wesson, who has run Z-Cars, in North Muskham, with Miss Moore for the past 12 years, suffered head injuries needing 19 stitches. Miss Moore suffered minor injuries and but was left "incredibly shaken".

Mr Wesson, 40, said: "The robbery has not only left us both shaken and scared, but for several weeks after the incident we didn't feel safe enough to open up at night and for the first month we didn't operate at all after 6pm."

The robbery happened at about 3am on 31 December 2011.

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident but later released without charge.

Detective Constable Steve Hines said: "This was a very nasty robbery during which the owners of the taxi firm not only had their home invaded but were also tied up and threatened."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Newark and Sherwood CID on 101, extension 809 7747, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
