Environmentally-friendly taxi service launched in Stroud

STROUD enjoys an international reputation for environmental awareness – and now the area has a car service to match.

Smart Move 4 One, a sustainable private hire car service, has been launched by long-established Stroud-based company SW Chauffeuring.

With around 70 per cent of daytime taxi journeys in the district being single fares travelling within seven miles of Stroud, proprietor Ian Hall said the new service made sense both environmentally and financially.

"We believe this new service offers taxi users in the Stroud district an environmentally-friendly option," he said. "With fares up to 20 per cent cheaper than regular Stroud licensed taxis, Smart Move 4 One is kind on our clients' pockets as well as the environment."

Using a Smart ForTwo production car, he added, would give passengers a spacious and comfortable ride, with a 340-litre boot to carry one person's normal luggage or weekly shopping.

A folding standard sized wheelchair can also be accommodated, as well as a guide dog.

Smart Move 4 One was launched following more than six months of discussions with the licensing department of Stroud District Council.

It is available for short distance local fares from Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. It can also be booked at fixed price for travel to destinations further afield.

How many of these "smart car" taxi services have appeared over the last year or two funny how the one in Peterborough has dissapeared I wonder how much research into the market this firm has done because they will probably find people don't like riding in "smart" cars they are unconfortable and give a feeling of lack of safety most people I have talked to that have had one wouldn't buy one again it therefore follows that people would not feel comfortable riding in one

Its a political thing I guess.....afterall who are an LA to refuse such things that are good for the environment (that was poor sacrasm), I hope people note this is going to be the minimum standard for National Standards.

Apart from that edders....I think your rationale is correct.

I would say in my area it's less than a third.
