WOMAN’S LIES OVER CABBIE SEX ATTACK

Evening Express
Sat 2 June 12

A WOMAN has appeared in court after falsely accusing an innocent taxi driver of launching a sex attack in his cab.

Alison Brock, 45, lied to officers and her fiancé about being sexually assaulted at the end of a journey home.

Police launched a full investigation into the cabbie – who was completely innocent.

Brock, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where she admitted making false allegations.
Defence agent Bob Anderson said Brock was still “at a loss to explain” the claims. He said Brock had drunk more than she normally would on the day of the offence.

He said: “She got home and made these allegations and things just snowballed.”
The solicitor added that Brock “apologises unreservedly for her stupidity”.

The court heard Brock had alleged that she was groped by the taxi driver. After it was reported, a probe wasted 25 hours of Grampian Police officers’ time.

Fiscal depute Alan Thomson said the lies were exposed by an independent witness who came forward, and several inconsistencies were noticed in Brock’s version of events.

He said: “She was unable to provide any explanation for these inconsistencies. She admitted she had fabricated the entire story.”

Brock, whose address was given in court as 30 Earns Heugh Crescent, Cove Bay, Aberdeen, was fined £900.

Sheriff Malcolm Garden said: “This is an appalling way to behave. The loss of police time is extremely serious given the pressure the police are under now. And also you made an allegation against an entirely innocent party that could have resulted in all sorts of difficulties for that individual.”

Absoloutely, the poor driver could have been deemed as much guilty until proven innocent, defamation, marriage in jeopardy, loss of earnings to name a few.
