As private hire are allowed to use the bus lanes in Glasgow, are the signs wrong? The signs say bus, cycles and taxi, no mention of LPHV.

This isnt against private hire, just curious as to how legal they are.

I suspect when the council did the traffic order they included PH in their taxi definition.

The legal term in the 1982 act is Private Hire Car (PHC).

Unfortunately, the abbreviation PHC isn't well known amongst the general public, so for clarity it would have to be put on the signs in full (Private Hire Car).
That, in turn could complicate the signs to the extent that someone being prosecuted could claim the signs were confusing and unclear.
Hope that makes sense.

I think Sussex is right, they will have included PHC with Taxis in the traffic order.

I'll ask a couple of the guys who were on the association about it when I see them but afaik it's controlled by a local bylaw and that's what they challenged
