Edgware cabbie turns taxi into Britain's smallest street party

A taxi driver from Edgware has come up with an ingenious idea to avoid missing out on the Jubilee celebrations despite working over the weekend.

Colin “The Cabbie” Sinclaire, 58, is turning his black cab into a mobile street party for the bank holiday weekend.

He hopes that his taxi will be the party in between parties.

He has decked his cab out with bunting, a fold-out table, sausage rolls, cucumber sandwiches and scones.

Mr Sinclaire is a self-confessed royal fanatic but the recession has left him with no choice but to work over the weekend.

While venting his frustrations to his wife, Andrea, he came up with the idea of bringing the party to his taxi.

Mr Sinclaire said: “I love celebrating a good British knees up, but I can’t afford not to work on the busiest weekend of the year.

“I didn’t want this to stop me from joining the fun, so I created what I’ve named ‘Britain’s smallest mobile street party’.

“I was so depressed about having to work over the weekend, but now I’m throwing my own party!”

Mr Sinclaire’s idea has caused such a storm that GetTaxi, the free taxi ordering app, has got involved to deck out a whole fleet of cabs with street party apparel.

One of these party cabs can be booked all weekend using the app.

Neal Fullman, CEO of GetTaxi UK said: “Our cabbies work hard all year round, but never more than over a bank holiday weekend.

“When Colin came to us with the idea of creating a mobile street party in his cab we wanted to do all we could to get behind him and are thrilled to be able to offer our drivers and taxi-goers a fun Jubilee-themed journey on this historic weekend.

“If ever there was an example of a GetTaxi driver going the extra mile for his passengers, our Colin is it!”

Our cabbies . . . Says the head of Get Taxi . . .

No. Without Get Taxi we carry on as normal, without us Get Taxi is no more, same goes for Hailo.

Some 'app' folks should remember that in London.
