Daughter's anger as Swansea taxi firm blacklists incontinent mother TEARFUL daughter has complained to Swansea Council’s licensing department after her incontinent mother was blacklisted by a city taxi firm. Barbara Jones said she and mum Susan Abraham were refused a ride from the city centre back home to Blaenymaes by Data Cabs last Friday. Miss Jones said that, according to the company, her 58-year-old mum had accidentally soiled a Data Cabs car on the way in. Miss Jones, who cares for her mum, disputes this. “To my knowledge she didn’t do it,” she said. “I was really, really upset. I was fighting back tears.” The 28-year-old said Data Cabs told her that a similar incident had happened on another occasion. Miss Jones said nothing had been brought to her attention, and that if it had she would have offered to clean the taxis in question or even pay the £50 fouling charge. “We think she is being discriminated against,” she said. “We don’t think it’s fair.” Mrs Abraham, a widower, uses a wheelchair and lives with her daughter at the latter’s house on Portmead Avenue. Miss Jones, a mum herself, said she did not drive and that buses for her mum could be tricky. She said they used Data Cabs regularly, spending around £60 with the company most weeks. The duo used a different taxi firm to get back home last Friday. Data Cabs managing director Terry Davies said he had blacklisted Mrs Abraham. “There are reasons for it,” he said. “A lot of our drivers who have taken this lady are refusing to pick her up again. “It’s not just the soiling part of it — drivers feel they suffer from the after-effects. It’s not a very nice smell, and it’s not fair on the next passenger. The vehicle last Friday was soiled. I saw it myself.” Mr Davies said it was an awkward situation but added that it was up to Data Cabs’ individual drivers whether they picked up a passenger or not. And he said the firm did regularly take people with disability issues. The Post asked Swansea Council if its licensing department had received a complaint from Miss Jones. A spokesman replied: “We have received a complaint from a resident and we are looking into the matter.” http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Daugh ... story.html |

FFS surely if this has happened you immediatly take the vehicle for cleaning. |

There's a plan. Go to the papers and let every other firm know your mother is in the habit of p!ss!ing in cabs. Wanna bet she'll be in the paper next week complaining that nobody will pick them up? |

Well here we go again, If mum is likely to leak (and this is a thing of age) then surely the thing to do is come prepared, ask for drivers who will assist her and make sure she brings a waterproof seat cover and a sponge with her at all times, Sorry to sound harsh but I can't help it due to medical grounds is no defence, if you know it can happen then you should prepare, I wonder what the story would say if she was allowed to ride on the understanding she coughs up £50 if she has a bad moment? |

The drivers don't want to pick her up, and the firm have decided to not service her. What else is the operator supposed to do? It happens to us all, but at the end of the day it's not our problem. It's for society or the family to sort this out, not us. And if the daughter wants to shout her gob off, then so be it. |

As the saying Goes "Its better to be P1ssed off than p1ssed on" Maybe its an ambulance mum needs and not a Taxi, It's not our place to carry the Incontinent or worse still those with a loose bowel. Why don't they Phone a Volunteer or charity driver, I'm sure they'll not object to helping this lady out. |

That,s fine if you have Spare vehicles, many of us Don,t...So you either Clean up and make do quickly or you take the car off the road until its been professionally and hygienically cleaned and that could take days to arrange and Several hundred of pounds of runs lost. It's just not worth all the Shlt is it? |

Like most towns we have several car cleaning/valeting places and they are open 7 days a week. |

Are they open 24/7? |

Most of the valet places are open from 7.00 am until 7.00 pm. Would you rather face the complaints sent to your council for having a taxi that smells of pi55. |

The solution is that if the lady requires a taxi and has a little problem then there is protection available for her to wear, simples. Why make all the fuss of writing to the papers. It would have been easier to address the problem and then explain to the taxi company that the problem was solved and it wouldn't happen again, oh and not to forget to apologise whilst she was at it |

grandad wrote: The £100 offsets the loss of earnings for loosing the shift. I realise that. We too have a soiling charge, although it's not that much. Getting the money is another matter, and even if they had it, do you think they wouldn't be running to the papers with some bleeding heart story about the scumbag taxi driver fleecing the little old lady out of her weeks pension money? grandad wrote: Most of the valet places are open from 7.00 am until 7.00 pm.
