Taxi driver punched by passengers during early morning assault

A taxi driver was assaulted by passengers in an early morning attack in Aberdeenshire.

Grampian Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was punched on the A90 at Hillside, near Portlethen, between 2.45am and 3am on Sunday.

The man, who was driving a white Toyota car, was uninjured as a result of the assault.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw two males and two females, described as being in their late teens or early 20s, who ran off in the direction of Portlethen.

One of the females had black hair and was wearing orange shorts, and the other had blonde, curly hair and was wearing a dress.

Officers have urged anyone who saw the incident or saw the group in the Portlethen or Hillside area to contact them.

Anybody with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5700 or anonymously at Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

The difficulty here is the lack of any mention of existing witnesses. Therefore we don't know for a fact that the driver was assaulted. The report is therefore incorrect.

For all we know the driver may have turned on the group and made to assault them, they just making a timeous escape to avoid the incident.

This is not News. It is speculation. Not only is this not News but it is dangerous not news. because it reminds the numpties that anyone can take a poke at a taxi driver and make off.

In the rush to the bottom of the pond we've allowed the quality of our hire car service to be diminished. Removing vehicles with protective bulkheads we've played into the hands of those who would allegedly use violence. It's open season on drivers.

My recent experience has already highlighted that, because of the greed in the PH trade and whose vehicles operate without a protective bulkhead for the driver, PH can't possibly be safe. The long hours drivers are forced to work to make even a meagre living places customers at risk.

(NOTE: - Isn't it interesting that there are no limitations place on PH companies to permit only a set number of vehicles in accordance with turnover or at least volume? And isn't the lack of any government control of this a fundamental abrogation of at least the spirit of Base Licensing, if not the specific terms?)

Now we are reminded yet again that unsuitable vehicles, not designed for the job of dealing with a fractious public, are placing drivers at risk

And the continued absence of mandatory CCTV cameras to protect the drivers, and the passengers on some occasions, is a disgrace borne from a lack of any real care about workers by our councils. Most of which would have CCTV in their buses along with a sign warning that their staff have a right to work free from violence and any such action would be prosecuted.

And of course the power base in the trade that is more concerned by maintaining their privilege, their right of ownership, their exclusion of all opinion except that which promotes their own narrow selfish interest, and which has proved dilatory in addressing any issues of personal safety.

So, at least if we can think about the issues raised by this legal non-story it would have a valuable purpose.

Wanna bet all those involved will just carry on with their grasping selfish greed and ignore the issues.

Obviously the incoherent ramblings of a drunk.

Another one who should be weeded out from the trade.

1. LTi is not the only taxi supplier who provides a protective bulkhead.

2. The bulkhead is largely a deterrent. And most of the time it works.

3. I once had a screen put in by two Royal Ed patients who'd gone on an alcohol blast which wasn't compatible with their medication.

4. Favour the scrote? No, I favour logic and the realism of legal proceedings, which says that proof is required.

5. A WAV salesman? You really should put more water in it Doom.

6. A top fellow? Like all the other numpties you seem to think popularity is some kind of aspiration in our trade. You forget it is full of complete self-centred scumbags, most of whom don't deserve to be pi**ed on even if they were burning.

That make it easier for you?
