Council to open Dudley taxi MOT facility DUDLEY Council is opening an MOT testing facility for borough taxis. Taxi drivers asked the council to offer an MOT service at the same time as their vehicles are put through routine inspections by authority officers. Following recommendation by the council’s cabinet, the new centre is set to cost £165k, with a base in the Enterprise Trading Estate in Brierley Hill currently being considered. Councillor Judy Foster, cabinet member for transportation, said: “We hope we can introduce the MOT testing centre in the near future and work is being carried out to ensure it is financially viable. We want the centre to be customer focused and do not intend to base it at a council works depot. The intention would be to offer it to taxi drivers and council vehicles initially and then if successful we could look to roll it out as a test centre to the general public.” http://www.dudleynews.co.uk/news/978809 ... _facility/ |

I can just imagine this .... and the manager will be saying to himself, how much do I need to generate to meet my budget,.......... so that will be xxxx number of passes and xxxx number of retests.... these type of garages work to the rule of testing to fail rather than testing to pass... |

I used to use the Nottingham City Council facility for my stretched limos. I always found them very good and helpful. If they were failing anything, they would take the time to show you why and any advisories were also shown, not just written on the MOT sheet. I don't get that with any of the appointed garages in our borough. |

So PREVIOUSLY the compliance tests were not being done at a MOT test station? Lets see how happy the Dudley taxi/PH community are when the council ONLY allow tests ate thier own MOT test centre, then the fun starts We have 1 designated "taxi test" garage but any old test station can do my MOT, but the council can add a MOT for £3.... 15 years ago, in a different LA the taxi-test was done at a MOT garage but the LA put the 200+ fleet test out to tender, what then happened was that the low price the garage had put in meant they always found a small job to fail it on, which by coincidence they could always fix there and then for £10-£20, this couldnt have been to jack up what they had underpriced the test could it.....if your car was petrol with carbs, they needed a twist to adjust the emissions, injected engines never failed, they always needed wiper blades or headlamp adjustment... |

I dont read it that way.... Quote: DUDLEY Council is opening an MOT testing facility for borough taxis.
Taxi drivers asked the council to offer an MOT service at the same time as their vehicles are put through routine inspections by authority officers. |
