Taxi firm is parked up after 23 years

The owners of a taxi firm have admitted that the murder to their star employee contributed to their decision to cease trading after 23 years.

Tracey and Mick Shelton will shut down MJs Taxis on June 30.

It has been a hard decision for the couple, of Dimple Crescent, Matlock, who started out the company in Wirksworth in 1989.

However the murder of their driver, Stuart Ludlam, by Colin Cheetham three years ago left them feeling jaded.

Tracey, 51, said: “We wanted him to take over the running of the business.

“We never got the chance to tell him that, which is sad.

“Stuart had something about him – he cared about his work.

“It was terrible when he was murdered.”

She said that since then she and Mick, 61, had been working practically non stop.

Tracey said that factors such as the decrease in the number of people going out nowadays had also influences the decision to close.

The couple bought a home in Lincolnshire and plan to move there.

Mick will be driving a taxi part time and Tracey plans to take the next year off work.

They gave their thanks to all the loyal customers they have had over the years.

Their employee, Alan Bagshaw, plans to set up his own taxi business.

Further information is available by calling him on 07979938116.
