Robber threatened Plymouth private-hire driver with kitchen knifeA KNIFE-wielding robber lured his private-hire driver victim into a trap, before making off with the cabbie's takings.
The private-hire car was called from a telephone box in West Park late on Saturday afternoon by a man requesting the cab come to the area of Foxtor Close.
At around 6.45am on Saturday the driver arrived and a man got in the back.
Almost immediately the man put one arm around the neck of the driver, pinioning him to his seat, while he used his other hand to point a three-inch long kitchen knife at the driver's throat.
He demanded the driver's takings but the cabbie replied he had only just come on duty and had very little money.
The robber snatched what was offered and fled in the direction of Shaldon Crescent.
The suspect was described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build.
He wore dark clothing and a beanie hat and spoke with a local accent.
Investigators say the taxi driver, who was driving a black saloon, was unhurt but very shaken up by the experience.
Lead investigator, Det Con Kevan Lawson, said: "This was a cowardly assault on a person just trying to earn an honest living.
"Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of West Park at that time who may have seen or know of anyone matching the description of this man, or seen the taxi pick him up."
