Time to give private hire drivers a voice Saturday, August 04, 2012 According to Hull City Council, there are 1,600 private hire drivers in Hull but there is no private hire drivers association. That means at licensing committee meetings, the private hire drivers have no way of voicing their opinions or concerns over any new rules the licensing committee wish to bring in. I think it's about time somebody stood up for the private hire drivers in Hull. The council could do a lot more for the private hire drivers in Hull. One big way would be to change the eight-year rule to ten, even if it meant having to have the vehicles tested every four months instead of six months for the past two years. This would give drivers longer on their vehicles and give the council extra income off the extra test. Should anybody be interested in restarting the association please get in touch. PH drivers don't have a voice because the companies do the talking for them and as we all know companies like Addison lee, Delta and others will always look after the interests of their drivers Besides which I very much doubt that there are many PH drivers in cities like Hull who actually understand the law and council policy as many do not have sufficient language skills |
