Where can I ride in a horse-drawn carriage?
Few methods of travel conjure up regal images the way a horse-drawn carriage does. If you'd like a taste of the high life, here's how to go about it in London.

Where can I ride in a horse-drawn carriage?

Answer:

Sadly, London is not like New York where you can jump in a horse-drawn carriage for a spin around Central Park. Luckily, Westways Carriage Horses offers a private hire service in the capital.

Owner David West cut his teeth at Fortnum & Mason delivering goods by the department store’s horse and carriage. He also delivered a bouquet to Kensington Palace on the same mode of transport when Prince William was born.

The company tailors each trip individually and can pick you up from your hotel. You can trot around the sites, take in the Royal Parks or be delivered in style to the theatre or opera. The drivers know London well so can choose the most pleasant route and avoid traffic-prone areas. They can also wait for a theatre performance to finish before whisking you home again.

The hire lasts for up to three hours and costs from £575. You can choose from two carriages: a landau from 1900, which seats up to four, or a more modern wagonette, which accommodates six. Sherlock Holmes fans may want to request the hansom cab, which can take you to 221b Baker Street without sparing the horses.

The company is fully insured, but does not take cards, just cash or a cheque. Ring or email to book.
