Private hire licence appeal refused Published on Friday 24 August 2012 16:02 A man who applied for a licence to become a private hire driver has been refused permission by magistrates. Michael Brown of Parnwell, Peterborough, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday August 22 to appeal against the city council’s decision to refuse him a private hire driver’s licence due to previous convictions. The court upheld the council’s decision and ruled that Mr Brown was not a fit and proper person to hold a private hire driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay £300 towards the council’s costs. Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning, said: “I welcome the result of this case and the confirmation that the council’s decision to refuse to issue the licence was the right one.
