Post subject:  Taxi Driver jailed by court after "vile" crime

A "VILE" taxi driver raped a mentally handicapped woman after picking her up from a day-care centre.

Father-of-four Mohammed Azram attacked the middle-aged women with a mental age of three when getting her alone after dropping off his other passengers.

Azram, 29, from High Wycombe, worked for a private hire firm which transported people to and from the care centre for Bucks Social Services. Aylesbury Crown Court heard on Monday how Azram had taken a particular route back from the care home so he could attack his victim.

It was when the woman's care workers noticed evidence that she may have experienced a sexual act that a full medical examination was carried out leading to Azram's arrest. A video interview with the victim was shown in court with Azram due to face trial. But the trial was abandoned after he changed his plea to guilty.

Jailing Azram for six years Judge Roger Connor described Azram's offence as "very grave as it involved someone who was, by reason of her mental capacity, unable to give or refuse consent".

Azram, who was charged with having sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder impeding choice, was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Really a side issue, but taxi drivers do work on PH firms.

I have no idea how High Wycombe licenses people.

Last time I took a job there, I saw TX's as Hackney Carriages, with saloon cars as PH.

I was refering to the original post which claimed he was a Private Hire driver, not a Taxi driver.

But agreed, it does the High Wycombe industry as a whole no favours.

The problematic use of terminology comes up time and time again, but there's not really a lot that can be done to stop the press (and police) using the term taxi in its everday sense, ie to mean either an HC or PH vehicle.

Indeed, when many LAs do likewise and use the term generically to mean both sides of the trade then the press can hardly be blamed for doing so.

And, of course, the article mixes the terminology as well :?
